2026 Addition

An addition to the Opera Theatre North records that was donated at a later date, and which describes the activities of the Opera Theatre North from 1997 to 2005. It contains newspaper clippings from local newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the Pioneer Press; publicity and media content; pamphlets and a poster; email correspondence; administrative records; a rehearsal and performance schedule; an Opera Theatre North Fact Sheet; and magazine entries.

Administrative Records

The file contains documents about a corporate advisory meeting on October 7, 2003 with an agenda outline, annual budget, and board directors, advisory board members and corporate advisory board members list. Furthermore, there is an outline for a meeting agenda on September 2, 2003. Finally, there are notes on an unnamed, and undated set of plans.

Assorted Materials and Media, Undated

This folder contains a collection of various photographs, including negatives documenting cast, performances, and rehearsals. A disc contains digital objects created from photographs in the folder. Additionally, there are two makeup proofs that a special effects studio made for the Highland Park Opera Studio's rendition of 'The Flute'.

Correspondence

The file includes a letter, and email correspondence between Opera Theatre North and patrons. The letter is between Mrs. Forbes and patron Mrs. Hollander about a membership subscription existence. In addition, email correspondence between Marla Forbes, Amy Greeny, and patrons in regards to ticket sales, group tickets, and dates for the Opera performances of March 2003 (Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro).

Magazines

The file contains two distinct magazines that wrote about Opera Theatre North: Opera Notes, from the Opera Theatre North, and Footlights from Total Performance Magazine. It contains Opera Notes Summer 2003 edition, and Footlights’ January 2003, March/April 2003, January 2004, and May/June 2004 editions. Opera Notes provides lengthy descriptions on sponsors, Barber of the Seville play, 2002-2003 season recap, the Opera Theatre North Board, donation award (Leadership Challenge) from a patron, and an announcement of them moving offices. Footlights provides descriptions of the performances of their season, interviews with Marla Forbes, descriptions of the Opera’s acts, opera singer biographies, and lists of patrons and sponsors.

Newspaper Articles, Reviews, Clippings, and Assorted Advertisements

Series 1 (Box 1) contains various newspaper articles, reviews, clippings, and assorted advertisements for the plays performed by the Opera Studio of Highland Park between the years of 1996 and 2005. The Newspapers that these articles, reviews, and clippings are from include the HP News, the Chicago Tribune, the Pioneer Press, the News- Sun, the Sun-Times, the North Shore Calendar, and the Daily Herald.
This collection contains the originals, as well as some copies.

Newspaper Clippings

A selection of newspaper articles from 2001-2004 from local newspapers such as Highland Park News, The Chicago Tribune, the News Sun, and others, and an entry on the HPG magazine from 2005. The articles contain interviews from founder Marla Forbes, musical director Francesco Milioto, baritone opera singer Eric McKeever, opera singer Sarah Gartshore, and opera singer Denise Finneran. The contents of the articles range from discussion of the founding of Opera Theatre North, who changed its name in 2003 from Highland Park Opera Theatre, to its expansion and growing audience in the Highland Park community and beyond. Particular topics include the impact of the 09/11 attacks on art and culture funding for Opera Theatre North and other art and cultural organizations in the Highland Park community, and the expansion of the outreach program designed to introduce elementary school students to opera through its accessible narrative format.
